Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Safety Professional to work in our Environment, Health, Safety and Quality department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls, facility with every other Friday off. You will develop, implement, and maintain programs to prevent or correct unsafe acts and unsafe working conditions, reduce or eliminate physical workplace hazards, and reduce or eliminate employee injury. Ensure compliance with 10 CFR 851, “DOE Worker Safety and Health Program” through company procedures and policies which incorporate OSHA regulations and other consensus standards. You will report to the Safety Manager for National Homeland Security. Responsibilities Include: - Be the safety professional on assigned projects or tasks and provide technical support and solutions to assigned organization’s mission using knowledge of safety practices, engineering, materials, processes, applicable regulatory requirements, and standards. - Provide technical support and information to line management, including support on complex safety issues. Maintain applicable safety programs and policy requirements and communicate requirements as they apply to planned or existing facility/program activities and structures. Provide input to facility/project specific safety and operational goals and programs. Promote established goals and provide feedback to line management regarding progress and areas for improvement. - Provide safety support and peer review of others across laboratory teams/projects or outside the Laboratory using knowledge of safety principles, general engineering principles, industrial materials and processes to applicable regulatory requirements. - Conduct periodic field assessments, including area/job walk-downs. Evaluate the implementation of company safety programs and policies. Prepare assessment plans and evaluation criteria. Coordinate participation with other safety disciplines/team members. Communicate identified issues and concerns to the appropriate management teams. Work with management to determine solutions and prepare corrective actions, as assigned. Enter and manage issues and findings in the company issues management system. Provide follow up with management regarding implementation of necessary corrective actions. Work with the customer on assessments they conduct. - Evaluate organizational risks and prioritize objectives to ensure management assessment program is effective. - Serve on hazard evaluation groups to identify, analyze, and control hazards. Identify, analyze, and control hazards. Review work control documents and site plans. - Be the advisor to management and customers. - Create formal networks involving coordination among groups. May network on a national level and serve on standards bodies/working groups as an advisor, participant, or leader. - Achieve and maintain professional qualification observing the Industrial Safety Qualification program. Take actions to stay up to date with new developments in industrial safety through professional development opportunities. - Contribute to routine reports for various metrics and assurance activities. May develop and provide lab-wide training programs. - Other duties as assigned.
