Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
MSTS is seeking an Access Control Personnel (Business Assistant III) member to support our Special Technologies Lab (STL) in Santa Barbara, CA.
Key Responsibilities
- Protection of security areas against unauthorized access, staffing fixed access control station.
- Protection of government property by conducting inspections of personnel and materials entering and exiting STL facilities.
- Patrolling designated areas and points of security interests, escorting personnel or materials, checking security repositories, secure telephone units, and areas during nonworking hours.
- Conduct daily building checks of all STL facilities during nonworking hours, which are scheduled anytime from the end of a workday to midnight. The building checks are to ensure all areas are properly secure and left in a safe condition.
- Observe/report unauthorized persons in security or controlled access areas, destruction of classified waste, preparing required reports in connection with administration of security functions.
- Responding to alarms and communicating with the alarm monitoring control center.
- Responsible for administering, regulating, and controlling the badge system for all personnel and visitors.
- Cite any unsafe activity, procedures, or conditions; help personnel in the event of a natural disaster or civil disturbance.
- Deter any criminal activity and summon the appropriate law enforcement in the event of a crime.
- Interact with outside agencies and respond to emergencies.
- Answer telephone calls to include access control post numbers, general numbers, as well as other forwarded numbers.
- Maintain and submit written reports about inquiries and accidents, shift summaries, and violations of administrative regulations.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent, and at least 3 years of related experience.
- Ability to use personal computer, printers, copiers, telephones, fax machines, calculators and other general office equipment is required.
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction and follow through on all assignments is required.
- Ability to apply knowledge of broad range of specialized functions and assist in coordinating activities with those of other work groups is required.
- Ability to demonstrate creativity in how work is performed and in addressing work processes is required.
- Ability to plan/organize work to complete in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines is required.
- Ability to work alone and as a team, function with minimal supervision, and always do the right thing, even when no one is watching (Integrity).
- Ability to deal with pressure of handling multiple tasks, frequent interruptions and time constraints is required.
- Knowledge of basic math, grammar, spelling, and punctuation is required.
- Restricted use of personal electronic devices while at the workplace.
- The primary work location will be at the Special Technologies Laboratory (STL) located in Santa Barbara, CA.
- Remote work not available.
- Work schedule: 5/8s, 24/7/365 shiftwork (days/swings/mids), frequent overtime with occasional 6th day and/or 12-hour shift.
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709 , “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Hourly range for this position is:
$24.66 - $37.00.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
