Project Overview
Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
UPF is a multi-year, multi- billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.
Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Job Summary
In this role, the technician will be supporting our customers for various project support needs including hardware, software, automation equipment and network troubleshooting. This role may be required to work overtime and varying hours depending on project need. The candidate must have strong troubleshooting skills and be able to handle multiple competing tasks at once with the ability to prioritize as needed.
Major Responsibilities
- Provides hardware, software and/or network problem resolution support for automation equipment.
- Stage computers for installation by applying standard images and baseline software.
- Install and configure desktop computers, CAD workstations and associated peripheral devices for end users.
- Analyze and resolve hardware, software, and/or network problems within service-level requirements.
- Maintains contact with users/clients using automation equipment to provide automation support.
- Provides training to users in use of automation hardware, software, and Local Area Networks (LAN).
- Provide instruction to peers or customers as needed.
- Performs IT projects as assigned.
- Maintains working knowledge of automation equipment hardware, software and/or networks and participates in the review of automation products and/or tools for project use.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 3 years of relevant work experience OR 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
- Must have US Citizenship.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a site security badge.
- Must either possess a DOE Q clearance or have the ability to obtain one.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong problem solving and end-user support skills.
- Hands on experience with Microsoft Windows 10.
- Must have experience performing desktop hardware and software setup and configuration.
- Must be highly organized and a responsible time manager.
- Must be able to handle multiple competing tasks at once and prioritize as needed.
- Must be able to maintain computer inventory and abide by project inventory standards.
- Computer literate in common software applications, including Microsoft Office and Adobe.
- Experience with imaging techniques and imaging software such as Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT).
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to document in written format technical processes in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.
- Experience with Powershell.
- Knowledge of telecommunications systems, protocols, and support.
- Understanding of data network concepts and terminology.
- Experience troubleshooting Citrix client and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) remote access problems.
- Experience with virtualization technologies and management tools (i.e. XenCenter and VMWare VSphere).
- Microsoft Desktop and Server Operating System certification and/or CCENT, A+, or Network + certification.
