Pay Range
$142,050 - $182,388 Annually
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We’re looking for a
Systems Maintenance Engineer. You will be responsible for establishing and implementing Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) operations processes, procedures, and practices for LLNL’s common real property and installed equipment for non-reactor nuclear facilities and conventional facilities. You will serve as the point of contact for maintenance of real property and installed equipment and will provide consultative advice using leading-edge principles, technologies, and best practices. This position is in the Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Department and may require working at Site 300 in Tracy, California.
This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home 1 day per week.
You will
- Provide advanced knowledge, guidance, and technical expertise in asset maintenance and reliability to deliver operational efficiency.
- Develop and implement an asset RCM program to optimize functional service life of equipment and systems, which includes the deployment of condition-based monitoring solutions and tools.
- Conduct Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to determine interdependencies of facility utility systems and to assess asset criticality ranking.
- Utilize drones to inspect equipment and systems in hard-to-reach areas; use infrared technologies to detect anomalies in equipment and systems.
- Review and assess infrastructure and facility systems reliability issues and provide resolution; identify opportunities for process improvement with regards to maintainability, reliability, availability, and equipment costs reduction. Perform infrastructure engineering design reviews for new construction, modifications, and alterations for operability and maintainability.
- Develop and maintain maintenance schedules based on equipment condition; and manage maintenance standards and processes, including the evaluation and assessment of potential hazards to personnel and equipment and training requirements.
- Review building commissioning plans for design intent, scope, verification, functional test procedures, schedules, and training requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely maintenance of equipment and systems, evaluate building systems’ integrity and operating requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering discipline or the equivalent combination of education and significant related experience and demonstrated ability to lead independent work.
- Significant experience in reliability centered maintenance planning and operations, including significant applicable experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management software system.
- Advanced knowledge and experience of interpreting multi-discipline construction drawings and related documents and performing formal design reviews with expertise in applicable design codes, standards, construction processes and products.
- Technical, analytical, and decision-making skills with the ability to organize and effectively coordinate multiple and frequently conflicting, concurrent tasks, with good follow-through and the ability to provide effective technical leadership in this environment.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, write procedures and/or safety related documentation, give technical presentations, and provide advice to management.
- Advanced experience working independently as a highly motivated, self-directed individual, analyzing and solving complex problems.
- Advanced proficiency with personal computers and using MS Office applications, (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Qualifications We Desire
- Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and professional experience operating drones.
- Certification as a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in California or other State or Territory with the ability to receive professional reciprocity.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
