Pay Range: $118,290- 182,388 annually
$118,290 - $151,932 Annually for the TSS.2 level
$142,050 - $182,388 Annually for the TSS.3 level
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
Job Description
We have an opening for a
Technical Trainer in the Safety Education and Training Office. In this role, you will leverage various adult learning theories and instructional strategies to deliver impactful in-person training focused on Environmental Safety & Health. You will collaborate closely with instructional designers and subject matter experts to ensure that training programs meet Department of Energy (DOE) directives and the labs requirements and effectively engage a diverse audience across multiple generations. This position is within the Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Directorate.
This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
You will
- Design, develop, instruct, and present engaging instructor-led training sessions, and performance-based practical evaluations on various ES&H topics.
- Create and facilitate the development of training materials that align with best practices in instructional design and adult learning principles ensuring they are relevant, engaging, and effective for adult learning and retention.
- Utilize various instructional tools and technologies to enhance the learning experience and keep training materials current with industry trends.
- Gather and analyze feedback from training participants to refine course content and delivery methods.
- Revise and revamp course content, including text, scripts, graphics, and assessments based on identified needs and experiences.
- Collaborate with directorate personnel to assess and address other training needs, ensuring relevance and effectiveness and develop, present and facilitate concurrence on proposed solutions.
- Assess equipment and software requirements and make recommendations based on desired functionality and identified needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Responsibilities, At The TSS.3 Level
- Lead the development of advanced training programs and methodologies, ensuring they meet DOE standards.
- Conduct in-depth analyses of training effectiveness, recommend improvements based on feedback and regulatory changes, and develop data collection strategies to implement corrective actions that enhance program efficacy and impact
- Serve as the principal contact for instructor-led training-related inquiries and initiatives, representing the organization in external engagements.
- Mentor and guide less experienced training staff and foster a collaborative environment.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or other related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and related technical experience.
- Comprehensive experience working collaboratively with leadership, subject matter experts, and personnel at all levels, leveraging facilitation and presentation skills to effectively drive active engagement.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing, to clearly convey strategic guidance and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Broad knowledge of health and safety measurement and radiation monitoring equipment.
- Ability to develop, facilitate, and analyze educational and training courses.
- Excellent presentation skills with experience in interactive classroom environments.
- Competent at managing multiple tasks and prioritizing work based on changing priorities.
Additional Qualifications At The TSS.3 Level
- Significant experience with training design, development and implementation of ES&H training programs and Radiation Protection.
- Advanced ability to create engaging and effective training programs for diverse adult audiences thru advanced proficiency in instructional design and adult learning theory application.
- Advanced knowledge of varied instructional and curriculum design models, such as ADDIE for instructor-led and web-based learning courses.
- Advanced ability to develop training effectiveness data collection strategies and implement corrective actions to improve effectiveness and efficacy of evaluated programs.
Qualifications We Desire
- Knowledge with regulatory compliance in environmental safety and health training, particularly within the Department of Energy (DOE) framework.
- Extensive experience in developing varied training programs that meet DOE standards and requirements in a National Lab.
- High proficiency using multimedia design, and web-based learning authoring tools including Adobe Creative Cloud applications (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop, Rush, Premier Pro), Adobe Captivate, and Articulate 360.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
Pre-Employment Drug Test
