Project Overview
Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.
The UPF project currently works on a 4-10 schedule with overtime Fridays for Field Engineering and Automation personnel. Start times for the standard work week is: Monday-Friday from 7:00am to 5:30pm for FEs assigned to MPB and 6:00am to 4:30pm for FEs assigned to SAB. Automation work schedule will be determined based on the need for Field Engineering automation support at time of hire and reassessed monthly.
Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Job Summary
Assigned to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) Field Engineering organization as an Automation Specialist. In this role, you will assist in construction automation efforts for complex projects, using database management, programming skills, and 3D tools. You will establish and administer the portfolio of construction automation applications on the jobsite and data requirements. You will review performance and recommend adjustments to tailor solutions to support strategy and compliance.
Major Responsibilities
- Establishes and administers the suite of construction applications on the project, includes, but is not limited to Teamwork’s, PowerBI, Process Director, and the XFighter series of applications.
- Implements the construction automation tools in accordance with the project automation plan, designing/developing workflows, forms, and templates for automation tools .
- Coordinates with design engineering, procurement, project controls, and other departments to establish automated data transfer between applications .
- Ensures reports are accurate reflections of the data and are functioning as intended .
- Collates performance curves, metrics, trackers, and user feedback to show trends and use in improvements .
- Reviews output data and prepares construction report types with direction from PFE and SM.
- Provides training and technical support of the suite of Construction Automation applications, to field engineering, supervision, administration, project controls, and other site personnel.
- Coordinates construction requirements with project IT lead/manager to ensure they’re incorporated in the project automation plan.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Database Administration or related field of study, and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain site security badge for access to work site.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Candidate should be a self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and be able to work well in a team environment.
- Candidate must have a good working knowledge of SQL Server and Oracle, including database view and procedure creation, Power BI, and SSRS report development.
