Pay Range
$47.45 - $57.62 Hourly (655.2)

Job Description
We have an opening for a
Firearms and Tactics Instructor. You will identify training requirements, conduct classroom and field security operations training using various specialized training methods and sources, and coordinate related administrative activities, and support protective force operations on an as-needed basis. This position is in the Training and Operational Services Division (TOSD) within the Security Organization.
You will
- Instruct protective force personnel in the requirements for protecting LLNL assets and interests, schedule and conduct rigorous field training and deliver presentations; conduct formal, informal, on-the-job, or remedial training and provide remedial training recommendations.
- Research and contribute to the development of innovative and creative training techniques, lesson plans and procedures.
- Assess and validate knowledge learned, effectiveness of training, and recommend changes to training program development, delivery, or trending measures.
- Research and assess relevant security operations training requirements and make appropriate recommendations to improve protective force readiness and operations.
- Identify and conduct self-assessments, ensuring timely action to correct any deficiencies identified.
- Determine training equipment needs, evaluate training environments and make cost effective recommendations that improve the overall effectiveness, safety and efficiency of the training program.
- Coordinate, deliver, and assess training that meets specific protective force requirements, utilizing the Enterprise Mission Essential Task List.
- Support the job analysis process by completing task analyses with TOSD instructional design specialists; serve as a subject-matter expert for task validation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a United States (U.S.) Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- Associate’s degree in a security-related field with two years’ experience as DOE Security Police Officer or the equivalent level of related education and experience in security, military, or law enforcement.
- Ability to successfully complete the DOE Basic Readiness Standard, a comprehensive medical exam including a multi-state cardiovascular assessment and psychological evaluation and the National Training Center Tactical Response Force-1 (TRF-100), Basic Instructor Training (BIT), Firearms Instructor, Intermediate Force Instructor, Basic Tactical Entry Instructor, and Tactical Leadership Courses.
- Broad knowledge of protective force security operations, policies and procedures, and the application of individual and small team tactics.
- Experience coordinating and leading training or related activities, providing instruction and direction to others, and able to work on different shifts to support the training requirements of the Security Police Officers. Experience contributing to, participating in, or conducting assessments.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills with experience identifying and researching alternatives or solutions to obstacles.
- Advanced interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact, discretion, and maturity. Effective organizational skills, attention to detail, communication skills and ability to present information in both written and oral formats.
- Ability to pass physical fitness and firearms qualifications in accordance with 10 CFR 1046.
- Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications, and experience with the Microsoft Office suite.
Qualifications We Desire
- Certified Basic Semi-automatic Pistol Operator Training (BSPOT) or Tactical Response Force-I, Opposition Force, Basic Tactical Entry (BTE) Specialist, BTE Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Intermediate Force Instructor, BIT, Armorer, and/or Live Fire Shoot House Instructor and experience performing protective force related duties at a DOE site.
- Experience as a trainer/supervisor in a protective force, security operations or related field.
- Success building and leading teams and motivating others.

Site 300
Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis
).
Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
Pre-Employment Drug Test
