Job Title: Projects Electrical Design Engineer
Career Level From: Associate
Career Level To: Senior Specialist
Organization: Y-12 Electrical I&C (50324263)
Job Specialty: Core Engineering
What You'll Do
The electrical design engineer will be responsible for developing high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems. Design involves the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and labor-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and required design output deliverables. Design output deliverables include conduit/cables schedules, conduit/equipment plans, one-line diagrams, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, various sections/elevations/detail drawings, calculations/analyses (load-flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination, and arc-flash), datasheets, equipment specifications, and construction specifications.
Electrical design engineers will primarily focus on the design of standard industrial systems at the medium voltage (15kV class) and low voltage (<600 V) levels. Design packages will convey the technical requirements for the installation and/or modification of outside site distribution infrastructure (overhead electrical systems) and facility power distribution equipment such as unit substations, transformers, power switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and general building electrical systems. Other design areas include lighting, lightning protection, fire alarm, public address, communication, and security systems.
The electrical design engineer will provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of problems through the application of established engineering practices and national consensus codes and standards. Candidate must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of a multi-discipline, integrated project team. The engineer will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.

- 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree
- 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD
In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2).
Preferred Job Requirements
