Job Description
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to pursue neutrino science and develop applications using reactor antineutrinos. You will participate in ongoing efforts to identify and develop opportunities for neutrino physics at nuclear reactors, building off the PROSPECT short-baseline reactor antineutrino experiment. You will also work with a new generation of solid-state antineutrino detection technologies that operate aboveground for use in reactor monitoring applications. This position is in the Rare Event Detection group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.
In This Role You Will
- Perform reactor antineutrino measurements and analyses.
- Characterize source terms and backgrounds for neutrino science and applications.
- Identify and develop opportunities for neutrino physics at nuclear reactors.
- Develop detection technologies and concepts for nonproliferation applications of reactor antineutrinos.
- Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present results at conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings.
- Collaborate within multi-institution and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Perform independent research and develop solutions to challenging technical problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Qualifications:
- PhD in Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, or related field.
- Experience in particle physics measurements and analyses.
- Experience with particle physics software tools, including Geant4 and ROOT.
- Experience with C++ and Python programming languages.
- Familiarity with neutrino detection development.
- Ability to work independently on technical hardware and software tasks, provide in-depth analyses, and develop technical solutions.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, students, and technical and administrative staff
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills necessary to deliver presentations and prepare written reports.
- Qualifications we desire
- Experience with organic scintillator detection systems.
- Experience with reactor antineutrino detection.
- Experience in nonproliferation and safeguards.

Position Information
This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
