The Facilities & Operations (F&O) Directorate's mission is to enable great science. The Guest Services Division, one of 8 divisions within the F&O Directorate, provides services that support and assist the world-class scientific research performed at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), including housing, food, transportation, mailroom, and conference services. Guest services are available to all BNL divisions, departments, guests, users, and visiting researchers.
The Guest Services Division seeks a Residence Services Supervisor to direct the work of the Laboratory's housing custodial services staff, and manage special projects as assigned.
This position reports to the Guest Services Division Housing Services General Supervisor.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day oversight of housing custodial staff and housing support services, including running planning meetings, assigning work, monitoring progress, training, assigning overtime (as needed), the housing reservation system, and approving timecards.
- Develop capabilities of staff by ensuring that staff is competent, trained, and qualified for assigned work.
- Develop solutions and coordinate activities needed in response to customer needs/concerns/issues.
- Identify improvement projects needed and oversee the staff, including subcontractors, performing the work.
- Ensure that work is planned and completed within established controls, environmental, safety and health (ES&H) requirements, and according to Laboratory priorities and customer-sanctioned schedule, budget and deliverables.
- Identify potential hazards, environmental concerns, and unsafe conditions or practices in work or at work sites and implement or suggest controls to minimize risk.
- Support the Housing Services General Supervisor with the preparation of plans and budgets, as requested.
- Order all supplies, maintain inventory, and issue stock. Places credit card purchases and web requisitions.
- Maintains Chemical Management Static Inventory for housing custodial areas.
- Maintain awareness of environmental impact of work and apply pollution prevention and waste minimization techniques.
- Respond to emergency situations, alarms, or occurrences, as needed.
- Recommend staffing actions.
- Initiate work orders in approved systems and track them to completion. Coordinate work order work with the Facility Project Manager (FPM).
- Foster a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement with a focus on customer service, efficiency, and quality.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field; or equivalent (2:1) ratio.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ relevant work experience.
- The ability to direct exempt, non-exempt, and bargaining unit staff.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Proven ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Experience leading and managing teams/workgroups.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and balance multiple priorities.
- Ability to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, nights, and weekends.
- Advanced interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse and inclusive community.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment with advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Discretion in handling confidential and/or highly sensitive matters.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $78,400- $117,600 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
