The Weapons Facilities Operations (WFO) Facility Operations Directorate (FOD) as a High Explosives Facility and Operations Program Manager. The selected candidate will report to the WFO FOD and serve as WFO's subject matter expert (SME) for facility-related high explosives (HE) safety.
The WFO HE PM function provides technical expertise and guidance to support safe and compliant operation of WFO explosives facilities. The selected candidate will identify and help resolve complex facility-related explosives safety issues; work in coordination with the LANL Explosives Safety Program (ESP) to develop effective solutions; and support WFO Operations Managers in implementing institutional explosives safety requirements and decisions.
The position serves as a key interface between WFO and the LANL Explosive Safety Program, providing WFO perspectives regarding facility conditions, implementation considerations, costs, limitations, and mission impacts. The position will also support facility design, infrastructure improvements, modifications, and other activities requiring explosives safety expertise.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for facility related HE safety issues within WFO.
- Serve as the primary WFO interface with the LANL Explosives Safety Program for facility-related explosives safety issues, including providing WFO perspectives on requirements, implementation, facility limitations, cost, and mission impacts.
- Provide guidance to WFO Operations Managers on implementing explosives safety requirements and decisions established through the LANL Explosives Safety Program.
- Identify WFO facility-related explosives safety issues and, in coordination with the LANL Explosives Safety Program and other stakeholders, develop and recommend solutions.
- Coordinate and track resolution of WFO facility-related explosives safety issues and ensure agreed-upon corrective actions are implemented within WFO.
- Ensure WFO explosives facilities comply with applicable DOE-STD-1212 and LANL explosives safety requirements.
- Ensure explosives safety considerations are integrated into WFO facility planning, project development, facility modifications, infrastructure improvements, and operational readiness activities.
- Support DOE/NNSA explosives safety assessments as the WFO facility subject matter expert and representative, in coordination with the FOD and LANL Explosives Safety Program.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge of facility-related explosives safety requirements and experience applying safety requirements within operational or facility environments.
- Demonstrated experience identifying complex facility, technical, or compliance issues; coordinating stakeholders; developing practical solutions; and driving issues through resolution and implementation.
- Experience implementing requirements supporting high explosives facilities or high explosives operations.
- Experience defining work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, performance milestones, resource needs, and managing risk.
- Demonstrated success leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams through planning and execution.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively engage personnel at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated experience working across organizational boundaries and serving as an interface among operational organizations, institutional programs, technical organizations, and senior management.
- Demonstrated ability to balance safety requirements, facility limitations, cost, schedule, and mission needs when developing and implementing solutions.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of DOE-STD-1212 and LANL P101-8, Explosives Safety.
- Knowledge of DESR 6055.09 or other explosives safety standards applicable to explosives facility design and operation.
- Experience supporting DOE/NNSA or other federal assessments, reviews, or interactions.
- Experience with high explosives facilities, operations, infrastructure, or facility modifications.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent program management certification.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
