The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $700 million annual budget.
Brookhaven National Laboratory was recently chosen as the building site for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a one-of-a-kind nuclear physics research facility. The EIC will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the “glue” that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. The machine design is based on the existing and highly optimized RHIC Ion Collider. Beyond sparking scientific discoveries in a new frontier of fundamental physics, the Electron-Ion Collider will trigger technological breakthroughs that have broad-ranging impact on human health and national challenges.
The Business Services Directorate (BSD) has an opening for an associate business specialist position within the Electron Ion Collider, (EIC) Business Office. This individual will report to the Business Operation Manager that currently oversees the EIC Directorate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide financial support, monitoring, and oversight for EIC project/activities.
Prepare and monitor budgets, expenses, and commitments for assigned programs.
Prepare closeout requests for commitments.
Prepare current year cost plans including detailed labor plans.
Generate and monitor forecasts and LCDS.
Generate monthly reports for distribution or website publication.
Participate in the development of procedural improvements and problem resolution, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance/business, or equivalent experience generally based on the basis of 2:1 (experience: college).
Two (2) years of related work experience.
Proficient skill level in Microsoft Office products, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, and experience managing and manipulating large databases.
Ability to review financial data and prepare meaningful financial reports.
Ability to work independently, establish own goals (with supervisory approval), and apply independent judgement, within policies and standards, to complete projects and administer process(es).
Ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels.
Flexible team player who is able to interact with scientific and business staff to accomplish objectives and resolve issues.
Ability to prioritize and effectively deal with deadlines.
Ability to identify and resolve problems within own area of responsibility.
Ability to identify organizational resources and seek assistance when needed.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Interest in science mission of the Laboratory.
Familiarity with PeopleSoft and the ability to generate queries and reports.
Knowledge of BNL policies, practices, and procedures.
Detailed knowledge and use of Excel and other software programs used as management tools.
Familiarity with Power Business Intelligence.
Familiarity with Workday.

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable, and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $74150 - $101600 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education, and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
