Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Underground Work Control Manager and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will provide direct daily supervision and support for Underground (UG) maintenance work planners and Work Control Center coordinators. This position reports to the Work Control Manager.
Roles And Responsibilities Include
- Collaborate with Work Control and Maintenance management to ensure UG work planning and control activities are aligned with site priorities.
- Distribute work assignments to planners; assist in balancing workload.
- Support backlog reduction efforts; provide status updates to Work Control Manager.
- Hold regular meetings with planners to communicate priorities, share information, and discuss challenges.
- Review draft Work Control Documents to ensure compliance with Writer’s Guide and template.
- Serve as a key interface for audits and surveillances.
- Lead coordination efforts with Maintenance, Underground Facility Operations, Mining, Engineering, and Project/Construction Management teams.
- Conduct formal self-assessments as assigned by Work Control and Maintenance management.
- Analyze performance measures with Work Control and Maintenance management.
- Ensure planners attend required training and maintain qualifications.
- Address corrective actions as assigned.
- Approve direct reports’ timesheets biweekly.
Minimum Requirements

Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of related experience, or
- Associate’s degree with six (6) years of related experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of related experience is required.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
- Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Candidate must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
Salary Range
$96,789 to $172,368 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 32-34. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
