Work Arrangement: Onsite with limited telework after initial training and management approval

Salary Ranges
- Readiness Subject Matter Expert: $165,000–$220,000 annually
- Readiness Team Leader: $135,000–$180,000 annually
- Readiness Team Member: $100,000–$140,000 annually
- Readiness Team Associate: $70,000–$95,000 annually
- Readiness Training Development/Deployment Specialist: $105,000–$155,000 annually
Final compensation will be based on education, relevant DOE and nuclear experience, readiness qualifications, leadership responsibilities, training expertise, active clearance status, and overall alignment with the selected labor category.
Mandatory Experience Requirement – Read Before Applying
Applicants must have experience or education applicable to nuclear engineering, nuclear operations, nuclear safety, operational readiness, facility startup or restart, engineering assurance, technical training, or another closely related discipline.
Candidates will support Y-12 projects subject to DOE operational readiness requirements. Personnel must be capable of collecting, reviewing, and evaluating objective technical evidence used to demonstrate that facilities, systems, personnel, procedures, and management programs are ready for safe and compliant operation.

About the Roles
The Y-12 Readiness Assurance organization requires technical professionals to support project startup, restart, readiness assessment, and Startup Authorization activities.
Selected personnel may participate in operational readiness reviews, readiness assessments, document reviews, personnel interviews, field observations, performance demonstrations, corrective-action verification, training development, and formal readiness reporting.
The work may involve technical interfaces with engineering, nuclear operations, nuclear safety, maintenance, work control, quality assurance, training, project management, and Contractor Assurance organizations.
Available Positions
Readiness Subject Matter Expert
The Readiness Subject Matter Expert will provide senior technical leadership for complex nuclear facility readiness and Startup Authorization activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or a similar technical field.
- Minimum seven years of experience leading or supporting readiness efforts that resulted in Startup Authorization.
- Advanced understanding of nuclear operations, engineering, and nuclear safety.
- Experience evaluating complex technical evidence and readiness prerequisites.
- Ability to provide technical guidance to readiness teams and senior project leadership.
Readiness Team Leader
The Readiness Team Leader will lead multidisciplinary readiness teams and coordinate the planning, execution, documentation, and reporting of readiness reviews.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum four years of practical readiness or related nuclear facility experience.
- Previous experience serving as a Readiness Team Leader.
- Practical experience using tools applied at DOE sites for readiness or Startup Authorization projects.
- Experience with Contractor Assurance processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and prepare formal readiness conclusions.
Readiness Team Member
The Readiness Team Member will evaluate assigned readiness criteria and support document reviews, interviews, field observations, demonstrations, and report development.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum two years of related experience.
- Knowledge of DOE readiness reviews.
- Experience in nuclear operations, engineering, maintenance, startup testing, training, nuclear safety, quality assurance, work control, or a related technical area.
- Ability to review technical documentation and evaluate objective evidence.
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
Readiness Team Associate
The Readiness Team Associate is an early-career position supporting evidence collection, document organization, readiness tracking, review coordination, and report preparation.
Minimum Requirements:
- Awareness of DOE readiness reviews.
- Less than two years of related experience, or an associate degree in a technical or similar field.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize technical information.
- Interest in nuclear operations, engineering, readiness, safety, quality, or technical assurance.
- Ability to work under the direction of senior readiness personnel.
Readiness Training Development/Deployment Specialist
The Training Development/Deployment Specialist will develop and deliver technical training and qualification programs supporting nuclear facility readiness.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Five years of training development and delivery experience involving DOE Order 426.2A; or
- Experience designing, developing, or delivering highly technical curricula that resulted in attendee position qualification.
Applicants should have experience developing lesson plans, examinations, qualification standards, practical evaluations, instructor materials, and performance-based training.
Responsibilities and Duties
Depending on the assigned level, responsibilities may include:
- Support operational readiness reviews and readiness assessments.
- Collect and evaluate objective evidence demonstrating that readiness requirements have been met.
- Review procedures, safety documentation, training records, test results, qualification records, and project turnover documentation.
- Develop readiness plans, review criteria, lines of inquiry, checklists, schedules, and implementation plans.
- Conduct interviews with operations, engineering, maintenance, safety, training, and project personnel.
- Observe drills, demonstrations, equipment operations, and field activities.
- Evaluate the readiness of personnel, procedures, equipment, facilities, and management programs.
- Identify findings, observations, vulnerabilities, and incomplete readiness prerequisites.
- Draft clear, objective, and technically supported readiness conclusions.
- Support corrective-action development and verify closure of readiness findings.
- Prepare formal readiness reports, briefing materials, status updates, and management presentations.
- Support Startup Authorization recommendations.
- Develop or deliver technical training and qualification materials when assigned.
- Follow CNS and Y-12 procedures for quality assurance, security, information protection, and conduct of operations.
- Protect UCNI, CUI, OUO, and other sensitive government information.
- Complete required web-based, site-specific, and General Employee Training.
Minimum Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship.
- DOE Q clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
- Education and experience meeting the requirements of the selected labor category.
- Experience in nuclear engineering, nuclear operations, nuclear safety, operational readiness, engineering assurance, technical training, or a related discipline.
- Ability to analyze technical information and communicate findings clearly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Ability to comply with DOE, CNS, and Y-12 security and information-protection requirements.
- Willingness to complete required onsite and web-based training.
- Ability to work onsite at Y-12 as required.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, systems engineering, physical science, or a related technical field.
- Previous experience at Y-12 or another DOE/NNSA nuclear facility.
- Active DOE Q clearance.
- Experience with operational readiness reviews or readiness assessments.
- Experience supporting nuclear facility startup, restart, commissioning, turnover, or Startup Authorization.
- Knowledge of DOE Order 425.1.
- Knowledge of DOE Order 420.1C.
- Knowledge of DOE Order 426.2A.
- Familiarity with DOE Order 413.3B.
- Familiarity with DOE-STD-3006 and DOE-HDBK-3012.
- Experience with Contractor Assurance processes.
- Knowledge of conduct of operations, safety basis implementation, quality assurance, training and qualification, maintenance, or work control.
- Experience developing findings, corrective actions, closure packages, and formal technical reports.
- Previous leadership experience on multidisciplinary readiness teams.
