Job Summary
Under direct supervision, performs nondestructive assay measurements as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities are to assist and support management in ensuring proper completion and documentation of assigned nondestructive assay measurements are in accordance with all applicable requirements. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following areas such as radiological characterization planning, in addition to other duties as assigned.
Perform nuclear measurements (gamma ray spectroscopy) and data reduction sequences as necessary to evaluate items of interest or facilities for radiological constituents in accordance with established protocols and procedures. In addition, may perform statistical test on data to determine radiological distribution and material composition. Assists to ensure the main element(s) of interest for the measurements comply with specific Data Quality Objectives to meet customer (NCS, NMC&A, Nuclear Facility Safety, and Waste) needs.
Must be able to document and communicate all nuclear measurement and analytical results as required by protocol or procedure and in accordance with managerial direction. Must be able to set up, operate and calibrate NDA instrumentation in accordance with procedural requirements and assist with identifying anomalies to ensure instrumentation will produce quality data.
Requirements And Education
- High school diploma or equivalent technical training, or two years of experience in the nuclear facility field
- Able to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training
- Proven ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with standard Microsoft software
- Knowledge of NDA data analysis algorithms and their limitations
- Knowledge of NDA hardware, method selection, and limitations
- Self-motivated, requires limited direction
Preferred Requirements And Education
- Meet ASTM C1490-14 5.2.4 NDA Qualified Instrument Operator requirements
- Experience and knowledge of the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) and the Department of Energy (DOE)
Clearance and Health Regiments
- DOE "Q" clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" clearance.
