Discipline Description
Quality Engineering personnel apply engineering principles to ensure products and processes meet quality standards. They design and implement quality control systems, develop test methods and protocols, and analyze engineering data to identify defects and areas for improvement. They ensure compliance with internal and external regulations, requirements, and contribute to continuous engineering improvement of quality systems and methodologies.
Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include
The Weapon Quality Engineer (Lead Assessor/Auditor) develops, implements, and maintains the organization’s weapon quality assessment and audit program, ensuring compliance with NNSA Policy (NAP) 401.1A, industry regulations, and internal standards. This role supports continuous improvement by conducting assessments, analyzing results, and collaborating with teams across the organization. The Weapon Quality Engineer also assists with training and serves as a key point of contact for external auditors and regulatory agencies
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment Program Development and Execution
Develop, implement, and continually improve a documented assessment and audit program, including Independent, Management, and Self-Assessments as required by NAP 401.1A.
Define assessment criteria, scope, and methods; ensure risk-based planning and consideration of performance and previous results.
Schedule, plan, and lead assessments at required intervals to verify compliance and effectiveness of the Weapon Quality Management System (WQMS).
Maintain comprehensive records of all assessments and report results to management and stakeholders.
- Data Analysis and Reporting
Analyze assessment findings to identify areas of improvement.
Prepare and present clear, actionable reports to management and stakeholders.
Assist in developing and delivering training on quality standards and assessment procedures.
- Stakeholder Communication
Maintain open communication across all levels of the organization.
Serve as a point of contact for external auditors and regulatory agencies during assessments and audits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Quality, Engineering, Science, or similar) or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in quality assurance, auditing, or assessment program development.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and relevant standards (e.g., NAP 401.1A, ISO9001, ISO17025, NQA-1).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Security Clearance Information
SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and Sigma 15, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
