Job Description
We have an opening for an Academic Graduate Appointee. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research, analyze data, support technical development, and collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary teams to advance scientific and engineering objectives. Focus area(s) may include infrastructure resilience, power systems, or AI/ML or software development. This position is in the GS-CAD/Cyber Infrastructure Resilience group in the Computing organization at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
In this role you will
- Conduct research in assigned area under general direction and supervision.
- Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research.
- Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide advanced technical support to scientists in scientific research and development projects.
- Collaborate with other internal and external research groups at LLNL and in some cases at other institutions.
- Present work through presentations.
- Contribute to the fulfillment of technical projects and organizational objectives functioning as an effective team member on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Engage other developers frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations, working to fulfill deliverables as a team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See the additional information section below for details.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, applied math, or a related field.
- Experience with version control, object-oriented design principles, and software development lifecycle leveraging languages such as python, C/C++, or Java.
- Experience with AI/ML, operational technology, internet of things, or control systems is a plus.
- Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities and meet deadlines that are important to project success.
- Ability to approach difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity.
- Effective interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel and ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills to prepare, present, and document technical information.
Pay Range
$10,215 Monthly
Pay set by hiring organization.

Security Clearance
None required. However, this position involves U.S. Export Control; this work must be performed by a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. national, or U.S. protected individual (e.g., refugee, asylee)).

Per the Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Depending on your job duties, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where you are not permitted to have a personal and/or laboratory mobile device in your possession. This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.
If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
