Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Mine Operations Mining and Infrastructure Manager and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Roles
- Direct interface to Engineering in all matters relating to the underground mine plan, ventilation plan, rock mechanics, ground control, etc.
- Works closely with Projects and Planning Manager to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive mine plan is created incorporating equipment replacement and infrastructure advance and replacement, and other Capital, MCP, and Maintenance projects, such as hoisting, are incorporated into the master plan.
- Assume formally or informally delagated responsibilities for the other managers, when needed.
Responsibilities
- Advocate and demonstrate personal commitment to safety, in both word and action.
- Ensure compliance with DOE Orders, Hazardous Waste Facility Permit, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), and Code of Federal Regulations 29 and 30.
- Supervisor to Field Engineer
- Works collaboratively with Engineering to develop and maintains a comprehensive mine plan reflecting operations long term strategy.
- Owns and maintains mine sustainment plan.
- Ensures plans are endorsed by senior department leadership and ensures timely reviews.
- Provides direction and support to execution team under Mine Production Manager by timely delivery of plans and projections.
- Defines, maintains, and reports mine performance metrics, including hoisting.
- Based on relevant data, champions operations plan for production and safety improvements through use of technology advancement.
- Monitors execution team performance against metrics and schedule adherence and sets correction plans as needed.
- Supports and integrates LANL Science and Research needs into overall plan and ensures their needs and objectives are met.
- Interface, coordinate, and maintain working relationships with all WIPP departments as necessary.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or related field with nine (9) years of related experience, or
- Associate's degree in mining engineering or related field with thirteen (13) years of related experience, or
- Highschool diploma or equivalency with seventeen (17) years of related experience
- Must have a broad knowledge of underground mining systems, equipment, processes, and practices.
- Must be able to become qualified to work underground.
- Required to complete and maintain training and qualifications for respirator use, wear a respirator, and work in radiologically contaminated areas.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
- Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
Preferred Requirements
- Previous supervisory and/or management experience is preferred.
- Mining Related preferred certification – Society of Mining Engineers, etc.
- Profiecient in AutoCAD 2025 or higher

Exempt grade level(s) 34-37. Salary range: $114,912 to $216,833 per year --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
