Position Summary
RSI Entech is actively seeking a Waste Characterization Support Specialist (WCSS) to support the UCOR Cleanup Projects at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Y-12 National Security Complex. The WCSS facilitates the preparation, organization, and routing of characterization planning documentation, sample requests, and related documentation. The WCSS participates in tracking daily activities related to the planned characterization tasks: tracking when samples are collected, shipped, analyzed, and validated. The WCSS is responsible for compiling and distributing analytical results to project participants on a frequent basis as new data is loaded to UCOR’s environmental characterization database.
The facilities subject to characterization, waste management, and disposition by UCOR have a wide variety of radionuclide, and chemical contaminants; thus, a background in environmental characterization and/or analytical chemistry is desired. This position may also include other related aspects of waste characterization including but not limited to waste management calculations, waste determinations, profile development, documentation of waste characterization information, waste certification, waste disposition planning.
Primary Responsibilities
Management, editing, and distribution of waste characterization sample requests.
Management and distribution of waste characterization data.
Interface with the characterization planning team, project personnel, and the sample management office staff.
Required Education And Experience
- Must have at a minimum a bachelor’s degree (science, engineering or related field) OR 3 years of experience in the responsibilities detailed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software (Excel and Word)
- Proven ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance
- Self-motivated, requires limited direction
- Must have a valid REAL ID or US Passport
Preferred Qualifications
- Work may be required outside normal business hours and sometimes on short notice
- Must be willing and able to travel
- Technical knowledge of radiological and chemical characterization practices.
- Technical knowledge of laboratory analytical procedures/practices and analytical data evaluations.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and DOE Orders.
- Experience and knowledge of the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) or experience from other Department of Energy (DOE) sites.
- Programming and database knowledge.
