Job Description
We have an opening for an
Information Security Specialist. In this role, you will interpret and apply established Department of Energy (DOE) and Laboratory security policies and procedures within assigned program areas, support compliance reviews and self-assessments, assist with training and awareness activities, and contribute to the protection of classified, sensitive, and controlled information. This position supports the Information Security Group within the Security Organization.
You will
- Resolve security-related issues and inquiries; interpret and provide guidance on DOE Security Orders and Laboratory policies, procedures, guidelines, and manuals within assigned program areas.
- Provide input to the development, implementation, and administration of Information Security policies and procedures to meet DOE Order requirements; provide input to revisions as needed.
- Support Operational Security (OPSEC) and Classification Management/Program Coordination (CMPC) activities, including reviews, guidance, awareness efforts, and implementation of applicable requirements.
- Serve as a Basic Instructor Training (BIT) Certified Instructor to assist in teaching institutional LTRAIN courses and developing course materials.
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in self-assessments, data analysis, report writing, and corrective actions.
- Protect classified, sensitive, and controlled information; track training compliance records; and maintain the integrity and accuracy of assigned policy and procedure documents.
- Monitor security measures and conduct inspections, reviews, and assessments within assigned areas to ensure compliance with DOE Orders, LLNL policy, and Information Security, OPSEC, and CMPC requirements; compile data, report findings, present analyses, and support implementation of solutions.
- Support security-related campaigns, events, messaging, briefings, documentation, process tracking, and approvals for assigned security programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in security, science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- Experience applying and interpreting DOE and/or NNSA requirements, guidance, orders, and regulations related to information security, OPSEC, and/or CMPC, preferably in a DOE, NNSA, or similarly regulated environment.
- Knowledge of information security, OPSEC, and/or CMPC principles, requirements, and procedures, including protection requirements for classified, sensitive, and controlled information.
- Experience planning, coordinating, or conducting self-assessments, audits, and data tracking/analysis, and using results to support recommendations and corrective actions.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise reports and correspondence, support training and awareness activities, and develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise sound judgment and discretion, solve problems, manage competing priorities, and consistently meet deadlines with limited supervision.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience assisting with development or revision of local procedures, training materials, reports, or compliance documentation.
- Experience supporting compliance-based self-assessments, awareness initiatives, reviews, or implementation activities in a DOE, NNSA, or similarly regulated environment.
- BIT certification, or experience delivering structured training, briefings, or awareness content.
- Knowledge of LLNL, DOE, or NNSA processes related to protection of classified, sensitive, and controlled information.
Pay Range
$95,820 - $117,312 Annually
This is the lowest to highest salary range in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Security Clearance
This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire. Also, you must have the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access. Please note that your current active Q or Top Secret clearance with DOE or another agency does not guarantee DOE SCI access approval; if you are denied access, you may be subject to reinvestigation of your existing Q or Top Secret Clearance.

This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.
If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
