Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Systems Administrator and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot VMware virtual server environment.
- Deploy, configure, and manage Microsoft Windows Server virtual and physical machines.
- Upgrade legacy systems.
- Administer and troubleshoot issues on all components of VMware/Omnissa Horizon View including vCenter, Composer, and Connection servers.
- Administer Active Directory Domain Services, Active Directory Certificate Services, DNS, Group Policy, File/Print Services.
- Administer a Microsoft 365 environment.
- Administer Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager server.
- Perform and monitor System backups.
- Deploy, install, and manage physical rack mount servers and blade servers.
- Deploy, install, and manage SANS storage arrays.
- Create and maintain configuration management documentation.
- Provide customer support.
- Support administration of life cycle efforts of configuration management.
- Implement IT Security standards following NIST guidance and security controls.
- Support Monthly patch management and vulnerability management.
- Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have basic knowledge of server administration, SANS, operating systems (OS), SCCM, security operations and concepts in MS Windows and VMware operating systems. They must be able to work independently, as well as perform in a group setting, and follow directions. They must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaboration with customers and peer IT administration staff. Good written and verbal communication skills are required and must be willing to support on-call and after hours support as needed.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of related experience, or
- Associate’s degree with seven (7) years of related experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with eleven (11) years of related experience is required.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Preferred Requirements
- Working knowledge of the WIPP IT infrastructure.
- Experience deploying virtual environments.
- Trained in VMware/Omnissa Horizon View administration.
- NIST STIGS and CIS Benchmarks and their application to government systems.

Exempt grade level(s) 29-31. Salary range: $75,013 to $130,969 per year --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
