Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Data Engineer to play a key role in advancing our data-driven mission. In this position, you will design, build, and maintain scalable data systems that enhance the quality, accessibility, and usability of information across the organization. You'll work at the intersection of data engineering, platform architecture, and applied AI-partnering with data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, scalable, and high-quality data systems.
This role requires technical depth, collaboration, and a passion for improving analytical and operational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure data pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, and reporting solutions.
- Integrate large and diverse data sources into unified systems that support analytics, forecasting, and operational decision making.
- Support deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management of AI/ML models and agents in production.
- Optimize data workflows and systems through automation, modernization, and advanced engineering techniques.
- Maintain large datasets and implement data pipelines that feed critical engineering and operational systems.
- Provide technical leadership across broad engineering assignments and participate in technical committees to support organizational goals.
- Optimize performance and cost efficiency across cloud data platforms.
Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
- Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
- Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
- Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and data pipeline frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP).
- Experience supporting machine learning workflows and model deployment (MLOps).
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (OpenShift, Kubernetes).
- Strong understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and distributed systems.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code is a plus.
- Background in building data platforms for AI-driven products.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Pay Range
$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
