Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Modeling/Simulation Professional to work in our Data Twin Frameworks department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Education Campus with every other Friday off. The Digital Twin and Data Frameworks department leads research that advances state-of-the-art capabilities and approaches to digital threads and the integration and management of systems and data, enabling digital twin and similar technologies. The department’s accomplishments include creating the first autonomous control digital twin for a non-nuclear microreactor and the first digital twin of a nuclear reactor, to leading large data repository efforts that support wide research communities. We apply computer science, digital engineering, and AI to develop and apply technologies that will reduce risk and cost while increasing the productivity and capability of organizations, facilities, and testbeds. As a central point of integration across the Scientific Computing and AI division, we work with experts and researchers that span a variety of technical domains to enable the integration of data, models, and visualization to shape America’s technological future. You will perform the research, development and testing of software, models, simulations, and associated visualization using existing, new or newly created technologies. Apply extensive expertise in application of computer programming languages, mathematics, statistics, and logic in the development, optimization, and testing of models that approximate physical entities or processes. Responsibilities Include: - Apply principles, theories, and concepts to support full stack technical solutions spanning mobile, embedded, desktop, web-based and hosted capabilities in the support of programmatic goals. - Apply DevOps capabilities and best practices to support the deployment and maintenance of models and applications in various cloud and on-premise environments using technologies such as docker and Kubernetes (experience with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Azure/AWS certifications preferred) - Apply software engineering principles, theories and concepts to data and data management, processes, and information display and visualization. - Modeling and simulation to address complex problems across multiple different fields. These fields may include nuclear, chemistry, digital twins, critical infrastructure, energy delivery, and energy security applications. - Analyze, test, modify, document, and maintain models or simulation-based systems related to scientific domains, including nuclear applications. - Complete assigned computational analysis/modeling tasks. - Make preliminary selections and adaptations of technical alternatives. - Develop and review designs, requirement definitions, operations, documentation, and testing processes, program, and develop software using appropriate technologies for the application (which may include C#/C/C++, Rust, Python, TypeScript, Elixir, MATLAB, Simulink, and Julia). - Continuously enhance your skills with cutting-edge technology. - Provide consultation services to our teams in applicable technologies, requirement definitions, operations, and testing. Deliver high-quality product features exceeding client expectations.
