Savannah River National Laboratory's (SRNL) Global Security Directorate (GSD) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our team as a Project Manager. The ideal candidate will be someone with extensive experience in nuclear materials management , radiography, and international safeguards, with the ability to lead and execute complex operational tasks within a global environment.
The Mobile Plutonium Facility (MPF) is the world’s only rapid response capability that can be deployed to characterize, stabilize, and package plutonium for shipment to a recipient location. Our mission supports the NNSA Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation’s Office of Material Management and Minimization. Since its inception in 2005, MPF has grown steadily, developing innovative technical solutions and conducting multiple deployment exercises globally. Our teams are dedicated to ensuring the U.S. is prepared to secure at-risk nuclear material internationally in a swift and safe manner.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain capabilities that enable the denuclearization of nuclear development programs while supporting verification efforts.
- Provide on-site stabilization, packaging, and removal of nuclear materials.
- Lead radiography and computed tomography operations within the MPF.
- Participate in and lead exercises both within and outside the continental U.S. to ensure operational readiness.
- Provide consulting expertise on radiography system design and layout.
- Conduct intelligence analysis related to global nuclear sites.
- Operate and manage unmanned aerial systems (UAS) within the SRNL framework.
- Manage various ongoing projects and coordinate all team members to keep workflow on track.
- Manage project-related paperwork by ensuring all necessary materials are current and properly tracked.
- Communicate with sponsors to identify and define project requirements, scope, and objectives.
- Interface with SRNL leadership, federal oversight resources, and other sites in the DOE complex.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in fields of project management, international studies or affairs, security studies, national security studies, or related field and 7 years of relevant experience.
- Work experience in engineering and intelligence analysis at a national laboratory.
- Demonstratable expertise in plutonium processing and radiography.
- Extensive experience with digital radiography & computed tomography.
- Proficiency in Intelligence Analysis Methods and Information Operations.
- Experience with international safeguards and nuclear non-proliferation.
- Excellent knowledge of statecraft, WMD, and proliferation issues.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, ability to successfully interact with DOE, project reviewers, project staff members and senior laboratory management.
- Demonstrated experience working in diverse, high performing teams.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Q clearance with additional add-ons.
- Prior experience in supporting NNSA/DOE programs, with SRNL experience strongly preferred.
- DOE National Laboratory experience.
- Hands-on experience with the Mobile Plutonium Facility, including deployment and operational management both CONUS and OCONUS
- Participation in exercises and operational assessments for federal agencies.
- Experience in emergency response.
