Position Description
The Guest Services Division seeks a Temporary General Communication Clerk to join their team. Under general supervision, performs semi-routine communications service and mail duties requiring the use of several procedures and making decisions requiring some judgment, including processing, picking up and delivering incoming, outgoing and intra-Laboratory mail. Some familiarizations with cryptographic and radioteletype equipment and procedures is required, as well as routine operation of the teletype, addressograph and other office machines. Incidental typing, maintenance of office records and files, processing of mail and other office functions are required.
The hours of operation/shift for this position are M-F 8am-4:30pm. This position reports to Mailroom Supervisor.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Performs mail duties requiring the use of several procedures.
- Processing, picking up and delivering incoming, outgoing and intra-Laboratory mail.
- May assist with the application of Certified and Express mailings.
- Maintenance of office records and files and perform incidental typing.
- Comply with BNL’s occupational safety and health requirements.
- The above list of duties is not all inclusive of every duty performed by this position but does include the major elements in the job.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possess a valid NYS Driver’s License
- Basic Computer proficiency
- Ability to operate mail trucks (Box truck and van) and adhere to all on-stie traffic rules.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Able to interact with USPO (United States Postal Office)
- Good organizational skills.
- Able to operate postage machine and other office machines, as applicable.
- Proven ability to work in collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment with problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential and/or highly sensitive matters.
- Must be available for the entire duration (Sept. 22, 2025, to Dec. 22, 2025) of the temporary assignment.
Environment, Safety and Health Requirements:
Must meet medical requirements of the position, including but not limited to:
- May require moderate periods of standing.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Other Information
Term period may be extended based on business need and Management discretion.
