Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Central Characterization Program (CCP) Container Coordinator and join our teamlocated in
Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, controlling, and tracking Transuranic (TRU) waste to support the Central Characterization Program (CCP) at LANL. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, and deliberate implementation of procedures to ensure work activities are performed safely and compliantly. The following are key responsibilities of a CCP Container Coordinator:
- Complete training necessary to obtain the CCP Container Manager Qualification Card.
- Maintain the TRU waste inventory utilizing multiple data sources.
- Inspect structural integrity of TRU waste containers and ensure associated data is compliant with CCP procedures prior to containers being introduced into CCP characterization processes.
- Maintain production reports and track status of TRU waste containers through each step of the CCP characterization process.
- Maintain accurate training documentation in accordance with quality assurance and records management requirements.
- Support internal/external audits and assessments, as required.
- Assist CCP Project Manager (PM) and CCP Vendor Project Manager (VPM) with various administrative tasks and record keeping duties required for compliant TRU waste characterization.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or
- Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
- Physical demands associated with this position include prolonged standing, extensive walking, lifting and carrying heavy weighted items, up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to negotiate stairs, ladders and platforms, as well as the ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Requirements
- CCP, Department of Energy (DOE), or WIPP experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and the ability to interact with a variety of constituents.

Non-exempt grade level(s) 28-30. Minimum salary $69,444 per year of a larger salary range -- the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
