OverviewWe are seeking a highly capable and collaborative HR Generalist 2 to join the HR Special Programs team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). This role offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to a wide range of HR functions, with a focus on supporting HR operations and practices, and enabling workforce success across the Laboratory. As a key member of the team, you’ll serve as a trusted partner to leaders, staff, and internal stakeholders, providing hands-on support across the entire employee and non-employee lifecycle—including onboarding, employee engagement and compliance related responsibilities. We're looking for a versatile HR professional with full-cycle HR experience who can step into a variety of roles and functional areas. You’ll thrive in this role if you're energized by variety and bring the versatility to contribute across the full range of HR functions, partnering on everything from day-to-day operations to strategic initiatives and policy implementation. Your ability to move fluidly between tactical work and broader organizational goals will help us continue building a strong, people-centered HR function that drives mission success.
Responsibilities- Collaborate on cross-functional HR projects and support core HR operations that drive consistency and impact.
- Process HR transactions and maintain accurate employee and non-employee records using tools such as PeopleSoft, Power BI, SharePoint, and Excel.
- Partner closely with Legal, Payroll, Safeguards & Security, Research Directorates, and other HR teams to ensure alignment and excellence in service delivery.
- Support change management efforts for new HR policies, systems, and initiatives across the Laboratory.
- Help monitor ensure compliance with HR policies, labor laws, and regulatory requirements.
- Draft, review, and distribute HR communications, policies, and announcements with clarity and accuracy.
- Provide first-line guidance to managers and staff on a variety of HR matters while staying current on trends and best practices.
- Deliver HR-related trainings to ensure understanding and compliance with lab-wide practices and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and HR integrity.
- Identify and contribute to process improvements that streamline operations and increase efficiency.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- BS/BA and 2+ years of relevant HR experience -OR-
- MS/MA or higher
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, adaptable environment.
- Proficiency in HR systems, data integrity, and process improvement.
- Working knowledge of HR policies, practices, and employment law.
- Experience with PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office Suite, and SharePoint.
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Proven track record of working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

If you have not resided in the U.S. for three consecutive years, you are not eligible for the PIV credential and instead will need to obtain a favorable Local Site Specific Only (LSSO)risk determination to maintain employment. Once you meet the three-year residency requirement, you will be required to obtain a PIV credential to maintain employment.
