Job Description
Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and health of those working in radiological environments? At the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, we're seeking an experienced and dedicated Internal Monitoring Health Physicist to lead our in vivo and in vitro (bioassay) monitoring programs. The main responsibility of the Health Physicist is to support regulatory requirements that enable Laboratory personnel to perform necessary radiological work. These regulatory requirements are fundamental in verifying the effectiveness of the NNPP's radiological controls program and demonstrating the Program Principle of protecting the workforce. In addition, the selected candidate will contribute to work that directly satisfies government requests and directives and that supports the nuclear fleet.
Areas of opportunity include:
- Administration and maintenance of multiple NNL-wide service contracts that support regulatory work and Program requirements.
- Health physicist oversight and responsibilities of regulatory in vivo and in vitro internal monitoring programs across multiple NNL sites.
- Training and qualification of all Knolls Laboratory internal monitoring personnel.
- Performance of Radiation Health internal monitoring evaluations and dose calculations.
- Perform cognizant health physicist duties for bringing new innovative technologies and procedures to the NNPP radiological controls community.
- Participation in the Knolls Laboratory Emergency Response Organization.
Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in health physics - gamma spectroscopy and spectral analysis
- Radiological experience - ability to work with and around radioactive material and radioactive calibration sources
- Certified Health Physicist (CHP) - desire to obtain formal qualification or already qualified
- Demonstrated ability to participate in complex projects to ensure they are done on time, on budget, and within scope
- Ability to communicate and work with vendors and our customers
- Demonstrated ability to team effectively in small and large groups both within organization and with other organizations
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Radiation Worker qualification
- Familiarity with Mirion-Canberra equipment and computer system networking

Pay Range
$105,200.00 - $164,400.00 annually
