Overview:
We are seeking a seeking a Radiological Engineer to provide radiological protection operations technical leadership and field support to ORNL research and facility operations, as well as technical program support as required, while also ensuring procedures, technical documents, and other various document types are properly, accurately and timely processed. This position resides in the Nuclear and Radiological Protection Division, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participate in radiological work planning and development and implementation of radiological hazard controls, research safety summaries, RWPs, and radiological design reviews.
- Provide radiological protection expertise for work planning and ALARA Design and Control.
- Lead and manage complex technical projects across multiple organizations.
- Collaborate with procedure owners to implement documents effectively.
- Develop, manage, process, and maintain Radiological Protection procedures within the Document Organization and Control System (DOCS) and the Standards-Based Management System (SBMS). Including but not limited to technical basis documents, technical evaluations, operational radiological protection procedures, and ALARA Reviews.
- Manage the coordination of revisions with engineering and technical staff for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance Specialist to analyze document management metrics for trends, evaluate the effectiveness of metrics, and make report results.
- Work individually and as an active and contributing team member, manage time and work independently with minimum oversight, accomplish multiple tasks in a complex environment, with attention to detail and thoroughness, possess an enthusiastic and positive work ethic, and handle potential stressful situations.
- Participate in internal assessments, audits, critiques, investigations, and assist with corrective action implementation
- Maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.
- Ensures compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
- Displays excellent human relations skills and utilizes good oral and written communication.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in science, engineering, health physics, organizational management, or related technical field with at least five years of relevant experience.
- Experience with requirements of 10 CFR 835 within the DOE Complex.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- An ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
- Demonstrated field experience as a Radiological Technician and/or Radiological Protection Operations Manager.
Special Requirements:
- Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
- Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
