Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians to provide support to SRNL. These technicians will be responsible for troubleshooting/ repair of electrical equipment, functional tests of installed process instrumentation, HVAC repair/ replacement, and other minor maintenance activities in both nuclear and non-nuclear buildings.
Responsibilities
- Installs, inspects, calibrates, and performs maintenance and repair on moderately complex equipment employing pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, chemical, optical, electronic and/or electrical principles of operation
- Follows/complies with applicable safety, radiological control policies and procedures, and site lockout/tagout program
- Calibrates mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic equipment against standards such as weight, pressure, temperature, voltage, frequency, chemical, radiation and isotopic concentrations, requiring simple calculations and unit conversion
- Works from approved standard and special procedures. In general, works under minimal supervision in a self-directed/ peer decision environment. Occasionally plans own work
- Applies acquired training and experience in the performance of routine and non-routine maintenance activities of moderate to high complexity. Seeks guidance from supervisor and other experts for difficult, unusual, or unprecedented activities.
- Demonstrates inherent responsibility for the health and safety of personnel, support groups, general public, and the environment. Monitors the work of support groups for completeness, quality, safety and efficiency
- Provides guidance, demonstration, and training to less experienced mechanics
- Interprets and uses drawings
- Adjusts clearance, force, linkage, voltage, current, resistance, capacitance and inductances
- Inspects and/or tests parts and assemblies to determine functional condition and accuracy of calibration
- Diagnoses problems and troubleshoots electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems issues
- Directs less experienced mechanics with the installation, inspection and maintenance of complex instruments, electrical and electronic equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and allied equipment.
- Uses protective devices and equipment to meet the requirements for electrical “hot work” and grounding
- Successfully completes classroom, on-the-job training, lectures, seminars and other forms of training
- Meets the physical requirements for the essential job duties, which may include being able to lift/handle 50 pounds, climbing, bending, twisting, exposure to extreme temperatures, wearing protective clothing/equipment (including respiratory) and meeting radiological control (RCI) requirements
- Performs administrative functions such as reading, reviewing and understanding manuals and procedures. Performs clerical activities as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS (or Equiv.) + 2-3 yrs of relevant experience.
- Works safely with particular attention to quality. Complies with all policies and standards.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Savannah River Site experience
- Demonstrated electrical experience in an industrial environment
- Active DOE Clearance
