Shift Front Line Manager - Fab / Welding - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Barberton, Ohio
Position Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated Shift Front Line Manager to oversee and provide leadership to our team of Front Line Managers (FLMs) who lead and supervise our skilled trades workforce in essential fabrication processes, including fitting, welding, and assembly operations. This role is critical in ensuring operational excellence, strategic planning, and efficiency across the fabrication processes, which include fitting, welding, assembly, and machining operations. The Shift Front Line Manager will be responsible for driving improvements in production efficiency, mentoring and guiding FLMs in managing their respective skilled trades workforces, and addressing operational demands. This is a 3rd Shift position, however requires flexibility to support various shifts and departments, as well as availability for scheduled overtime based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of Front Line Managers (FLMs) to ensure effective supervision of skilled trades personnel in fitting, welding, assembly, and machining operations. Oversee and coordinate FLMs' efforts to maintain compliance with safety protocols, production targets, and quality standards while facilitating strong communication and collaboration to enhance overall efficiency in the production process.
- Provide leadership during 3rd Shift operations by establishing production plans, preparing tasks for subsequent shifts, and planning and directing activities across multiple buildings to optimize workflow and achieve organizational production goals. Evaluate the performance of FLMs and provide actionable feedback for continuous improvement in their management practices.
- Manage the complexity and volume of components within production areas, ensuring clear communication of specifications and requirements. Input and manage essential data related to maintenance work orders, FLM schedules, and production forecasts using computer systems.
- Analyze operational challenges, propose strategic improvements, recommend enhancements to shop efficiency, refine policies and procedures, and effectively manage costs.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a supervisory capacity, particularly in overseeing multiple Front Line Managers, ideally within a unionized environment.
- Strong expertise in heavy fabrication, fitting, and welding operations with a track record of achieving production goals.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively guide a team of FLMs and foster a culture of collaboration.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship.
