Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Wireless Engineer to work in our Wireless Research department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the senior manager of Wireless Research. We are looking a research engineer to advance the state-of-the-art in physical layer wireless communication systems. This role will leverage experience in RF (radio frequency) engineering, digital signal processing, signal detection, and waveform design augmented by knowledge of AI/ML (artificial intelligence/machine learning) techniques to address the needs of high-consequence communications. This role will further require knowledge of C/C++ embedded development, FPGA (field programmable gate array) processing, Linux operating systems, real-time systems, and operation on constrained resources to facilitate the realization of advanced wireless concepts as operational prototypes. Responsibilities Include: • Conduct cutting-edge research in physical layer communication systems with an emphasis on AI/ML and signal detection. • Develop and implement AI/ML algorithms to enhance digital signal processing, signal detection, and signal classification in communication systems. • Implement AI/ML and digital signal processing algorithms on FPGA platforms for real-time processing applications. • Design and execute experiments to validate research hypotheses and evaluate system performance. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams, including software developers, data scientists, and other engineers, to develop novel communication solutions. • Analyze complex datasets to draw meaningful insights and inform research directions. • Prepare and publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences. • Conceptualize and advance new topics for research in the area of wireless communications system and signal detection, including developing proposals for emerging topics and working collaborative to secure research funding. • Write technical reports and documentation to communicate research progress and outcomes to stakeholders. • Mentor junior engineers and researchers in wireless research, physical layer design, and signal detection. • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML, digital signal processing, and communication technologies. • Emphasis is on investigating advanced wireless communications topics at the physical layer, as constrained by the need to produce implementable capabilities. • Other assigned task
