Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) Technician who will focus on providing technical support to the Designated Employee Representative (DER) and the UT-Battelle/ORNL Substance Abuse Program. This position resides in the Health Services Division (HSD), Environment, Safety, Health & Quality (ESH&Q) Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
As part of our team, you will collaborate with subcontractors and multiple internal teams to ensure compliance and effective program management.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Support WSAP drug screening program in all aspects.

Conduct WSAP drug screens and breath alcohol testing.

Ensure proper procedures for sample collection are followed to maintain integrity and accuracy.

Operate testing equipment and manage supplies to ensure accurate results. This includes calibrating devices such as screening instruments.

Maintain the confidentiality of the results and handle sensitive employee information in compliance with privacy laws.

Records and documents results for all drug and alcohol screenings and forwards results to the DER office.

Work closely with Human Resources or other relevant departments to schedule screenings for new hires, random testing, or post-incident testing.

Basic Qualifications:
-
An AS Degree in a health-related field and 5-7 years of experience in a healthcare setting with 2 years of which being in an occupational health setting.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Ability to obtain a BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Tennessee State Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) license or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Experience as a drug screen specimen collector.

Strong data entry and record-keeping skills; accuracy in updating patient information in electronic systems.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
-
The ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards, as drug and alcohol testing is sensitive.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
-
Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
