Job Description
Position Summary:
Level Three: Building upon level two, level three quality inspectors will demonstrate extensive knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T) methods. They will also demonstrate expert level blueprint reading and manufacturing/inspection related math skills. They will either serve as SMEs for mechanical, Tables, or CMS inspection. These inspectors read and interpret results of inspections to determine product conformance and will have enough knowledge of manufacturing processes to provide detailed feedback on ways to improve product quality. These inspectors work independently and seek little guidance from higher level employees. Typically, 3-4 years of experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Obtain job assignments from supervisor or manager.
- Work safely in accordance to plant safety guidelines including cardinal rules of safety.
- Adheres to quality processes including in-process inspection to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
- Working with computer operating systems, loading and manipulating CAD generated models and geometries, establish coordinate axis systems with or without supplied data, collecting and reporting data, word processing, spread sheets, basic CMM programming, etc.
- Adjust coordinate axis systems in linear X, Y and Z directions including rotational directions.
- Mirror, switch and utilize inverse images of CAD models.
- Develop dimensional inspection plans.
- Interpret drawings, process sheets, and CAD models for the purpose of evaluation.
- Use different types of manual measuring equipment such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, etc.
- Advanced understanding of die, forging, tool, fixture design and construction for the purposes of problem solving, analysis, and disposition of inspection results.
- Must be qualified through internal audits to perform layout inspections and final inspections.
- Must be qualified to perform all forms of inspection in the department.
- Mentor and train level 1 and level 2 quality inspectors.
- Perform internal audits of level 1 and level 2 quality inspectors.
- Work directly with Engineering on problem solving and special projects.
- Perform general housekeeping, operate fork trucks as required, and other related duties as specified by the supervisor.
- Work in a team environment, i.e. follow instructions and assist others as needed.
- Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition
- Perform daily housekeeping / 6S activities as required
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor or manager.
Required Skills:
- Proficient shop mathematics including advanced geometry.
- The ability to interpret process sheets, forging drawings, machine drawings, customer drawings, and complex geometric constructions.
- Proficient computer skills using additional software such as Microsoft Office applications, PowerInspect and Polyworks.
- Must have outstanding initiative and judgment, and the ability to work on basic to highly advanced inspections, layouts, and measurements.
- Must be capable of 3D visualization, establishing and referencing 3D coordinates and axis systems and applying CMS systems within this 3D frame work.
- Intense concentration is required to insure proper CMS system setups, proper use of tolerances, material offsets, and allowances, so that resultant measurements and reported outputs are accurate and reliable.
- The ability to perform advanced shop math, fractions, decimals and advanced geometry.
- The ability to use advanced inspection tools such micrometers
- The ability to navigate intranet to locate process documents – advanced computer skills
- The ability to read and interpret work instructions and advanced prints and dimensions
- Ability to professionally communicate and work cooperatively with others
- Attention to detail
- Basic English language skills and the ability to read, follow, and interpret planning and work order instructions

- US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to government military contracts.
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of two years of manufacturing experience; prior military experience; or technical certification / degree
- 3 to 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; prior military experience; or technical certification / degree. Prior quality inspection experience a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment
- Constant exposure to moderate noise
- Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to work any shift including overtime, weekends and holidays if scheduled.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.
- Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.
- Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane.
- Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
- Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
- Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
- Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.
