The expected hiring range for this position is
$24.59-$31.78.

About the role:
The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers, designers, and technicians to contribute to the fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operation of cryogenic equipment as well as other mechanical systems. The candidate will function as a cryogenic fabricator in MW-9, as well as work in various cryogenic test facilities and accelerators around the Fermilab site.
What your day-to-day as a Mechanical Technician II at Fermilab will look like:
- You will fabricate, set-up, operate, test, repair, and/or modifies a wide variety of moderately complex electrical/electronic and/or mechanical equipment, systems, and devices for Laboratory projects/equipment in the assigned area, based on drawings, diagrams and schematics.
- You will work on fabrication of cryogenic components and piping systems
- You will work on field installation, repairs, and modification to new and existing cryogenic systems
- You will assist with necessary paperwork and final testing of new components and piping systems
- You will assist with and maintain equipment required to perform daily activities
- You will help maintain a clean and safe work environment
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- HS Diploma
- 3 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of bandsaws, grinders, mills, lathes and machining practices
- Knowledge of welding and welding processes
- Basic computer skills
- Advanced knowledge of hand and power tools
- Ability and willingness to work overtime and available for emergency call-ins when required
- Experience with fabrication and installation of piping and tubing pressure systems
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and flow schematics
- Experience with helium leak detectors and leak testing
- Experience with pressure testing piping systems and components
- Work with vacuum systems and vacuum pumping equipment
- Experience with cryogenics and cryogenic systems
- Procures and maintains inventories of small parts, supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Must have a valid state issued driver’s license
- Must be able to pass an ODH medical exam
- Ability to work independently given detailed verbal or written instructions.
Physical Activity and Work Conditions:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Work from ladders and power lifts
- Working in and around loud environments
- Occasionally work outdoors
- Occasionally work in hot or cold environments
Work Arrangement:

- Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
