The expected hiring range for this position is
$75,800.00-$107,667.00.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

About the role:
The successful candidate will combine fundamental engineering concepts and principles with a growing familiarity of Laboratory engineering best practices to perform basic to moderately complex engineering tasks in the general field of Civil Engineering. You will continue to develop familiarity with the Laboratory’s method of project engineering, from the design stage through review, procurement, manufacture, installation, test, and operation. You will prepare plans and designs using AutoCAD Civil-3D software.
What your day-to-day as a Civil Engineer at Fermilab will look like:
- You will analyze data and performs engineering calculations. Develop less complicated designs of specific parts, components or phases of a project.
- You will prepare drawings and designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D software and will be a proficient user of this software platform.
- Under General supervision, you will develop drainage and utility designs for site and roadway projects.
- You will develop and document basic to moderately complex engineering design solutions.
- You will provide technical direction to draftspersons, designers, engineering associates and technicians, as assigned.
- You will participate in or lead aspects of procurement, as well as inspection, testing, and operation.
- You will assist in the development of cost estimates, as well as the monitoring of budgetary obligations.
- With review and approval of supervisor, you will propose resources, ensuring conformance to specifications and cost/time constraints.
- You will serve on safety panels, review committees, and other subcommittees as assigned.
- You may be asked to participate in technical conferences and publication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- Bachelors in an applicable Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
- 2+ years of fundamental engineering experience,
- OR a master’s or PhD in an applicable Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
- Knowledge of the Illinois Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction general familiarity with the system of construction specification included therein preferred.
Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Professional knowledge of theories, concepts, principles, and methodology for the engineering discipline. Possess ability to perform basic to moderately complex engineering design solutions and techniques.

- Hybrid: is a work arrangement in which an employee as part of an ongoing regular schedule, works at an alternative worksite in the United States (e.g., an employee’s residence) on some days and at the primary worksite on other days.
