The Waste Management Technical Associate will be responsible for work assignments within Waste Management Program. Coordinates facility operation and maintenance work activities. Participates actively in the development and execution of work including planning, prioritizing, authorizing, monitoring, and accepting work upon completion. Coordinates construction, maintenance and operational activities including utility outages or impairments with occupants and users of facilities in their assigned area; reviews project designs and plans which impact building systems and the Facility User Agreement (FUA); and supports the development of annual work plans. Identify potential hazards, environmental concerns, and unsafe conditions or practices in work or at work site and implement or suggest controls to minimize risk.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under minimum direction:
Schedules, coordinates and tracks all routine and non-routine maintenance activities for Waste Management (WM) facilities ensuring work control practices are employed and that work is conducted in accordance with established/required schedules, waste management program SOPs/Technical Work Documents, and laboratory policies and SBMS requirements.
Provides oversight of maintenance activities ensuring that all BNL staff and contractors performing work activities adhere to BNL and WM safety requirements
Assists in preparation and coordination of the review of work control documentation, procedures/technical work documents, job safety analysis, and radiological work permit requests as necessary to ensure that adequate work controls are in place.
Coordinates and tracks required inspections and testing of Waste Management Facility safety systems (i.e. Fire Protection and filtration systems) and equipment (i.e. overhead cranes, material handling equipment, rigging) to ensure their continued safe operation.
Oversees the implementation of approved work activities performed by WM staff, subcontractors, and BNL trade groups.
Maintains and periodically reviews design drawings for Waste Management Facilities/systems and ensures that changes to building configurations or systems are communicated to Facilities & Operations staff for incorporation into applicable design drawings.
Coordinates construction, maintenance and operational activities including utility outages, testing of fire safety systems, etc. and communicates such activities to facility staff to minimize impacts on operations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus:
8 years’ relevant work experience or,
a technical institute, Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL plus 6 years’ relevant experience or;
a technical high school certification program (eg. BOCES) and 7 years relevant work experience or;
a BS degree in a technical field and 2 years relevant work experience.
Relevant experience should include scheduling, coordinating and overseeing maintenance activities.
Must be familiar with working to established procedures.
Must maintain required training and qualifications.
The ability to communicate well in verbal and in written form.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite; especially Outlook and Word.
Requires material handling of up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalent plus:
10 years’ relevant work experience or;
a technical high school certification program (eg. BOCES) and 9 years' relevant work experience or;
a technical institute, Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL plus 8 years' relevant experience or;
a BS degree in a technical field and 4 years' relevant work experience.
Experience in the preparation of work control documentation such as routine procedures and job specific technical work documents.
Experienced in the use/operation of material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging.
Familiar with the operation and components of commercial facility systems such as HVAC, air filtration, high voltage power, and fire protection.

You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience.
